First 3 PTS
The first 10 mins were shaky, with balls bouncing all over the place... we took a while to get settled. Then with some really good pressure and finally getting the ball moving from our middle men, we took a foothold in the game.
After 20 minutes an excellently weighted pass from Tom Mercer through to Robert Herd saw a good goal, with him executing a real strikers finish.
We defended really well to keep it at 1-0 through to half time, although Stotfold never really looked like scoring. There was always a boot here and there to clear the ball, with Joe Howard and Andy Flood plugging away down the flanks, and James Parker, Danny Calmels and Ben Forth mopping up the opponent's attempts at goal.
With the blistering heat upon us, there were some serious performances from Nick Vaughan, Sam Miller and Robert Herd in the middle of the park. But we lost one of our generals to an injury early in the second half.
In an effort to overrun us, Crown changed their shape and went with 3 at the back. We kept going, kept defending, and after a lot of battling from Ben Forth and John Watson, who had now been introduced from the bench, we finally broke through again with a few good passes from the back and a lovely counter attack. The ball was slipped through to Tom Mercer from Simon Dean and another great finish made it 2-0.
Not long after we extended our lead, one of the Stotfold strikers scooped a complete Bieber shot, which ended up going high and made its way over the keeper into the far corner of our net... Simon Hill was left fuming as he hadn't put a foot wrong all day and wasn't going to get the clean sheet he rightfully deserved.
Still we dug in deep, and even being tired and exhausted we kept battling, shutting down and then we finally put the game to bed in the 80th minute when another pass from THE GAFFER found Sean Norris who managed to shrug off a clear foul from the keeper and make sure he FINALLY got his goal. A great start to the young lad's career.
Excellent performances all-round. One happy man!!
