The Jimmy Warner Testimonial
By Simon Dean
It gives me great pleasure to write today's match report...
I'm sure we will all be telling our grandchildren about the day a humble man who goes by the name of Jimmy Warner played his last game for us, and how he smashed home the winning penalty after extra time!
A Fantastic gesture by our own captain James Parker to give him the arm band today only a true captain would do that and boy did he step up!!
So, to the game... this week we started really quickly no messing about, we were all over them. And with our wingers Paul McGuire and Micheal Bowden looking dangerous, latching onto balls down the line from Andy Flood and Joe Howard it was looking good.
It really didn't feel like we had played much football before Sean Norris had put them under pressure at the back and curled one round the goalkeeper and although I'd try, there was NO assist this time :) We were on top from that moment in and again only having ourselves at fault for not putting away more, Paul McGuire coming so close and their keeper defying physics to keep the ball out on more than one occasion.
This team are very physical - they love a challenge and at times before we've buckled but not today. Not in the jimmy Warner testimonial. This was our day and we were taking it.
We went into the break 1-0 up and we knew we were losing one captain James Parker to foreign sports (don't get me started!), but he stayed on for us a further 10mins so we will let him off this time.
Roughly halfway through the second half and with us being under pressure they got themselves back in it through a corner, that was all we were giving them though... we let them back in but for another week we shut up shop, defence and Simon Hill playing an absolute blinder.
For 90 mins it was definitely a game of 2 halves us all over them in the first and them in the second. Today we had luck on our side and we had Jimmy... Saying that though it wasn't all smooth sailing in the first half of extra time our main man gave away a penalty. But it wasn't over yet with their number 10 managing to knock out poor Colin 2 streets away lighting up his BBQ, and then the poor lad taking off his shirt and going home .
Truth be told, for most of the extra time we were struggling, but neither side could get through and it had to be decided by penalties.

James Warner WINS IT!!!!!
Nail biting stuff and some really great saves from Simon Hill, with his Man of the Match performance.
Taking the sixth penalty thinking I was gonna end it all I'm glad I didn't - this was Jimmy's day and I couldn't happier for this absolute legend, don't be a stranger pal and thank you for everything.
